About Gardening The USA
The educational arm of Retired Gardener, Gardening The USA is an exciting adventure into gardening, education, and hands-on experience for the classroom or the entire family.
It's Not Just About The Seeds!
Seeds are an integral and important aspect of our ecosystems as a whole. How do seeds get dispersed in the wild? How do they contribute to the animals and insects in that ecosystem and vice versa? Why do we need to save those heirloom seeds? What's a hybrid? What's a GMO? What do synthetic fertilizers and pesticides do to our soil, wildlife, and health? How do THEY affect our ecosystems? Being that a garden isn't actually a natural ecosystem, but one made by humans, how do we nurture this manmade environment to mimmic nature and develop as a healthy contribution to the planet? AND how do we teach other subjects like math, science, geography, creative writing, entomology, music, paleontology, astronomy, and art in conjunction with seeds?
Creating An Educational Smorgasbord!
It's an ongoing adventure! The more the authors, gardeners, and artists began to work together, the more our collective creative began to blossom (pun intended) and we began to find ways to correlate our love of gardening with almost everything else on the planet and beyond. Sometimes those correlations are direct, at other times a bit more obscure, but that, in itself, teaches creative ways to teach, think, and learn.
We hope you enjoy our diverse units of study! We're having a grand time making them interesting, unique, fun, educational, sometimes a little crazy, and definitely extraordinary!
