Planting Instructions:
Direct seed when soil has reached a temperature of at least 60 F. Direct sow 2" apart at a depth of 1". If grown in rows be certain the rows are at least 2' - 3' apart to give space for good air flow. This plant can grow up to 18" tall so you may want to provide support at about 12" to keep them from wind damage.
Care:
These enjoy full sun in more milder climates, in the low desert of zone 9b they prefer afternoon shade and will not do well in the hot summer months. Keep soil moist but not soggy. They produce heavy crops of excellent quality stringless 6" to 7" pods.

History:
In 1898 Abel Steel of Ferguson, Ontario won a prize of $25.00 for naming this new bean from Peter Henderson & Company. It was previously known as "New Green Bush Bean No. 1."
One of the best producing and tasting of all green beans, the seeds are readily found from seed producer and smaller on-line growers. Despite its taste and productivity it's rarely found in stores because it doesn't ship well and is less frequently sold fresh and is not used as a major commercial crop. It is, however, highly popular with backyard gardeners as well as homesteaders.
Susan has been adapting this seed to our hot AZ climate for the past two years. These are the latest seeds which show great promise with high germination rate and are tolerating the warmer spring to summer weather with pretty good success.
