Care
These bush beans like direct sun with a planting depth of approximately 1" and about 4 - 6 " apart. They will grow approximately 20" tall and develop stringless pods about 7" long. If living in a very warm climate they may need extra water above 100 degrees and afternoon shade. Water the plants deeply, soaking the soil to a depth of 6-8 inches, once a week. If there is no rainfall, water 2-3 times a week. Water especially during flowering and pod formation. Sandy soils may need to be watered more often than heavy clay soils. Mulching around plants can help retain moisture and keep the soil cool. We don't recommend synthetic fertilizer.
This classic heirloom old-time favorite, introduced in 1900, is regaled for its quality and delicious wax bean flavor. It traces its lineage to ancient Central/South American beans, and was popularized globally after arriving gin France in the 1840's.
