Flower - Agertum Dwarf Blue
Flower - Agertum Dwarf Blue
Germination: 10 - 21 Days Maturity 60 - 90 Days
Planting Instructions:
Plant 3-4 seeds outdoors directly into the prepared garden soil 6-10 inches apart at surface-level. Gently press into the soil. Seeds may also be started indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date. They germinate well in soil blocks too.
If sown directly 1 - 2 weeks after the last frost they will have a longer blooming period. Water in the seeds with a mister.
Care:
For continuous blooms all summer, deadhead regularly. Dwarf Blue Mink Ageratum seeds are not tolerant to drought and require consistently moist soils. Avoid overhead watering to minimize the saturation of foliage. Plants will benefit from afternoon shade in areas with extreme summer heat. Dwarf Agertum is a great plant for containers and borders.
History:
Originally from Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean this plant thrives in warm, tropical, and subtropical regions. Scottish physician and botanist William Houston (1695–1733) collected the first specimens in the Caribbean and Mexico. It was first documented in American gardens by 1836.
While often known for their blue, tassel-like flowers, extensive breeding has produced cultivars in white, pink, lavender, and purple. Modern hybrids include both tall types (up to 24 inches) for cutting and dwarf types (6-8 inches) for edging.
In floriography (the language of flowers), they symbolize patience, trust, and lasting affection
