Tithonia, commonly known as the Mexican sunflower, has a history rooted in Mexico and Central America, where it was initially domesticated. Spanish explorers brought Tithonia to Europe in the 1500's. By the 1700's, it was being grown in the USA, even Thomas Jefferson including it in his gardens at Monticello.
This flower loves the heat and has the brightest orange color of any flower I've ever seen or grown. Easily grown in hot climates this flower will keep blooming for months and months and is the star of the show in any place where it's planted.
