Herb - Borage
Herb - Borage
Non GMO, Organic, Heirloom, 60 - 70 Days To Maturity
Planting Instructions:
Borage seeds can be sown directly or started indoors. Plant seeds about a quarter of an inch deep and keep the soil consistently moist. Once planted outdoors space them 12 - 18" apart as they tend to become very bushy.
Care:
Water regularly, especially during dry periods but don't let the soil become waterlogged. We recommend mulching around the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weeds. Borage doesn't require fertilization, but adding compost and worm castings twice during the growing season will promote healthier growth. These plants readily reseed themselves, so dead-heading is essential, not only to keep it blooming, but to prevent a borage forest the next season.
This plant is commonly referred to as a starflower due to the blue star-shaped blooms. It's not only an attractive plant, the flowers are edible, and it has numerous culinary and medicinal uses. It's a great companion plant as it attracts bees and pollinators and because it has deep roots can help to break up compacted soil. Some gardeners swear that by planting it with tomatoes it enhances the tomato flavor.
