Planting Instructions:
7-10 day to germination.TAM Jalapeno seeds are best if started indoors 4-6 weeks prior to final spring frost. Sow 3 pepper seeds 1/4" deep per cell in fertile, organic, and well-drained seed starting soil. TAM pepper plants grow to approximately 30" to 36" tall and will continuously produce slender red peppers once the first fruits reach maturity.
Care:
Transplant 12 - 18" apart. Staking as plants get top-heavy is recommended. The relatively compact growth habit of Serrano Tampiqueno pepper seeds allows them to be easily grown in containers, raised beds, and gardens with limited space. They prefer armer (70-85 F)weather and full sun except if you live in a desert climate, then afternoon shade is required.. During high heat, foliar and flower development slow or pause until temperatures return to the preferred range. Peppers like slightly moist soil but do not like their feet wet. Using mulch to maintain even dampness without overwatering will be helpful.
TAM pepper is a great option for those that enjoy a mild spice. They're great any dish where a typical jalapeno can be enjoyed. Jalapenos can be used to make enchiladas, chilis, and stuffed and thrown on the grill. TAM jalapenos can be turned into a more tamed pickled variety that can keep year round, and makes a delicious pepper jelly as well.
White stripes on peppers, called corking, are natural "Stretch marks" that come from rapid growth where the inner flesh expands faster than the outer skin. This indicates a mature, potentially spicier, and flavorful pepper, not a defect. These healed cracks, appearing as tan or white lines, are safe to eat and are common on jalapeños and other hot peppers, signifying good flavor development, not spoilage.
